I've added a rough table of contents. Feel free to add, modify, delete, etc. most links don't go anywhere yet.

That vandal bot had been by another four times on the main page, and once on this talk age. I deleted the graffitti; we'll see if any more pops up now that you need to log in to edit pages. DougBurbidge 07:23, 27 May 2006 (CDT)

I was waiting for OpenID before I stopped using the sforgau account, but as that seems best left until Mediawiki incorporates it (shortly, I believe), I've now created by own login. Hey, I've collected a bunch of con-running information and am having some trouble deciding where to put it. Can we reorganise a bit? The front page being the front page, I'm reluctant to just jump in. But I'm thinking we could have a section for Conventions, containing Natcons, all the current regional cons, and Convention running - which is to say, an updated Red Book. The front page has grown organically; the Fanzines section was just added in recently, for example. Reorganising it would be a great idea. We should probably plan that out here on the Talk page first, though.

Of course, a. we could re-order the sections, perhaps more appropriately; b. that's going to lengthen an already long page, so I think we should probably start pushing some of these links off to Category pages (eg. Hmm, thewiki ate my comment. A space for regional cons deinite plus! Perhaps group them by region? (I'd though the front page a little unwieldy and had already hesitated to add something like the Standing Rules of natconcom to the front page.) So, I propose a slight diff to JEREMY's layout (adding a spot for the Emilly's conrunning stuff) -

I'd just not wanted to repeat the list of cons :). Plus was still grappling with grouping by state layout, which I think is a fail, better to keep cons alphabetical if they are on the main page.

And, outwith the conventions, perhaps:

Australian Fandom (this was the category heading i couldn't decide on)
Australian Fanzines - a link to the list of efanzines links
Australian Clubs & Societies - a category page? am still stumbling around wikiformat etc

That sounds good to me. The simpler and clearer the front page, the better. Category pages are more difficult to lay out neatly, and are essentially just collections of article titles (although they do have an introductory header section which makes them a bit more like articles). A "list page" would work best for the Fanzines, because few of them have their own articles on the wiki. — JEREMY 02:53, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

As you can see from the fact that it's a redlink (or by clicking though), Regional conventions currently has no entries (although there is a Swancon article which could be categorised into it) while Running conventions is already a category, like Natcon. — JEREMY 04:55, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Front page reorganisation

It's a lot better now, but we need to do a few things.

  1. Work out where Awards goes (hive off the content and position it somewhere)
  2. Re-add some links to lower-level stuff (maybe as comma-separated lists)
  3. Perhaps restructure a little more by adding some text and perhaps images to the sections

Done: we're now running 1.17beta. (I had some trouble with an extension, but have hacked it to work again.) I haven't tested everything fully though, so please report anything unusual. — JEREMY 11:15, 8 May 2011 (CDT)

I think that's valuable (and it might be worth redlinking them to encourage others). Some fancier formatting (eg. indenting them on a separate line) and maybe some short framing-text (eg. "Regional conventions include...") plus perhaps the relevant States in brackets, could start to make the front page look less spartan without blowing out its length again. — JEREMY 08:39, 23 May 2011 (CDT)
I listified some more things. I kept the text very terse, and didn't indent on a separate line -- if you'd like to do that, feel free. I was trying to keep each list short enough to fit on one line on a 1024 pixel monitor; I have not quite succeeded. DougBurbidge 00:45, 28 May 2011 (CDT)
